New XAVL concept to preview SsangYong's new Hyundai Tucson rivalling SUV

Mahindra owned Ssangyong is all set to reveal its new XAVL SUV concept at next month’s Geneva motor show. It has just released images of the concept before the official launch. XAVL –  is supposed to stand for ‘exciting authentic vehicle long’.

The concept is a larger 7-seat version of the 5-seat XAV concept shown two years ago at the Frankfurt motor show. The XAVL draws inspiration from Ssangyong’s second-generation Korando model from the 1990s. The concept will be high on connectivity and feature a new infotainment interface. Safety has been given prime importance with new safety aids for occupants and pedestrians alike. The XAVL will be 4630mm long, 1866mm wide, 1640mm high and have a 2775mm wheelbase.

With such dimensions, the XAVL will be close in size to competitors like the Skoda Kodiaq and Nissan X-Trail. Engine options to include both petrol and diesel. The XAVL is most likely to be positioned below the new Rexton and expected to go on sale by 2020.

Mahindra will bring the next-gen Rexton to India in the near future. This time badged as a Mahindra it is expected to rival the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
