Jeep Wrangler local production will start at Ranjangaon manufacturing facility in Maharashtra

Jeep India is all set to launch the 'Made-in-India' Wrangler SUV on March 15, 2021 in the country. Being retailed at Rs 63.94 lakhs (ex-showroom) presently, it is expected to witness a substantial drop in price once the local production starts at Ranjangaon manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. Originally, Jeep Wrangler was introduced in August 2019 in the Indian market. Later, the automaker also presented a rugged and off-road variant of the SUV in the form of the Rubicon Edition which comes at a price point of Rs 68.94 lakhs (ex-showroom).

Jeep Wrangler is being imported as a completely built unit (CBU) in India and this is the reason, it attracted an unusual and higher price than competition. But this is going to change from March 15, 2021 as the company will roll out the first locally made unit of the SUV from its manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon. In line with the Government of India's 'Make-in-India' initiative, it will assemble the Wrangler from completely knocked down (CKD) kits. The Italian brand has already announced an investment of Rs 180 Crores in India to ramp up the local production of its products and Wrangler is the first model to be locally developed. The first batch of Jeep Wrangler CBU was sold last year itself due to high demand.

We do not expect the locally made Wrangler to come with any cosmetic or mechanical updates. It will retain its overall design while the cabin features like leather upholstery, keyless entry, push-button start, dual-zone automatic climate control and an 8.4-inch Uconnect 4C NAV touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will be carried forward. Under the bonnet, Jeep Wrangler offers a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine which develops a top power of 264bhp @5250rpm and peak torque of 400Nm @3000rpm. The engine is linked to an 8-speed automatic transmission while no manual gearbox option is currently on offer. The power is transmitted to all the four wheels via a Selec-Trac full-time four-wheel drive system.
