Mercedes Benz launched the new-generation S-Class earlier this year. The model was brought to India as a CBU. Around 150 CBU units were allocated for our market and were fully booked. Seeing such a high rise in demand, the German automaker decided to produce it locally. Having said this, the Made-in-India Mercedes Benz S-Class has been launched today. The luxury sedan is offered in two variants - S 350d 4 Matic and S 450 4Matic. The former is priced at Rs 1.57 crore (ex-showroom). While the latter is retailed at Rs 1.62 crore (ex-showroom). The Made-in-India Mercedes Benz S-Class was rolled out of the company’s assembly lines. The state-of-the-art production facility in Chakan, Pune has produced 13 models.
Made-in-India Mercedes Benz S-Class: Design
Dimensionally, the locally-assembled S-Class stands at 5289mm in length, 1954mm in width, and 1503mm in height. The car comes with a wheelbase of 3216mm. In terms of design, the new S-Class features LED headlights that come with a ‘Digital Light’ system. In addition, it gets a chrome heavy grille with three horizontal blades, a new front bumper with larger air intakes, wraparound LED tail lights, 19-inch multi-twin-spoke light alloy wheels, and flush fitting door handles.
Made-in-India Mercedes Benz S-Class: Features
The new S-Class comes equipped with a plethora of features. These include second-generation MBUX infotainment system, a Burmester 4D surround sound system with 15 speakers & 8 resonators, new rear MBUX touch tablet, a 12.3-inch instrument cluster, digital lights, rear massage seats, front seat kinetics among many others. The cabin boasts of Nappa leather upholstery with diamond cross stitch. In terms of safety, the made-in-India S-Class gets a driving assistance package 5.0 feature.
Made-in-India Mercedes Benz S-Class: Engine Specifications
Performance-wise, the S-Class S 350d 4Matic is powered by a 2925cc, OM 656, in-line, 6-cylinder diesel engine that churns out a top power of 285 bhp between 3600-4200rpm and a peak torque of 600 Nm between 1200-3200rpm. This variant can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 5.4 seconds. The S-Class S 450 4Matic, on the other hand, gets a 2999 cc M256, in-line, 6-cylinder turbo petrol engine that generates 366 bhp power between 5500-6100rpm and 500 Nm between 1600-4500 rpm. This trim can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in a mere 5.1 seconds. Transmission duties will be handled by a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The vehicle can further achieve a top speed of 250 kmph.
