Mahindra’s XUV500 SUV could soon be had with a petrol engine. The engine in contention is a 2.2-litre motor that’s based on the SUV’s current diesel engine. It will come with the option of a manual and an automatic gearbox.

The XUV500 is also due for an update soon. In addition to cosmetic tweaks, it will get a 170hp version of its 2.2-litre diesel engine, which is 30hp more than what the current car has. The petrol version is likely to follow, and is the variant that will take on the recently launched Jeep Compass.
