Mahindra is likely to launch a new premium SUV; Mahindra XUV900 name registered

Mahindra & Mahindra has recently trademarked the nameplate ‘XUV900’ in the Indian market. No details have been revealed yet about the product. However, we can expect it to be a full-sized premium SUV. Once it is launched, it will compete against the likes of the Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster in the near future. There are also speculations that it might replace the Alturas G4.

Besides this, Mahindra is planning to launch the all-new XUV700 in the third quarter of 2021. Codenamed as W601, the new SUV will be positioned above the existing XUV500. There are speculations that with the introduction of the XUV700 in the market, Mahindra might temporarily discontinue the XUV500. Coming back to XUV700, it will be offered with multiple seating configurations. As for the engine, it will come with a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. Transmission options will include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The SUV might get an all-wheel-drive system as an option.

As of now, we are not aware of the powertrain options that will be available on the upcoming Mahindra XUV900. However, we can expect it to get a powerful turbo-diesel engine. Also, the SUV will be positioned in a premium price range. Similar to the XUV700, the new SUV might also get a twin-screen layout for touchscreen and digital instrumentation each. Additionally, it will also come equipped with segment-first radar-based safety features.
