The Indian SUV giant, Mahindra has confirmed that their new 7-seater SUV code named Y400 will not be named the XUV700 instead will be called Alturas. The Mahindra Alturas is based on the SsangYong Rexton G4. The car was first showcased at the Auto Expo and this will be Mahindra’s flagship vehicle.
The grille and other exterior design of the SUV will be inspired by Mahindra’s other SUVs. The structure will be body-on-frame construction and over 81 percent of the SUV will be made up of high strength steel (HSS). The SUV will have a ground clearance of 244 mm.
The interiors of the flagship SUV will be very premium and the dashboard will be finished in a very high-quality plastic. The seats will be wrapped in Napa leather. The 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system will get Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The Alturas will be available in two trims – G2 and G4. The top-spec variant will get the sunroof.
Powering the Alturas will be a 2.2-litre diesel unit that churns out 181 BHP and 420 Nm of torque. The engine on this SUV will be mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox that has been sourced from Mercedes. The car will also be available in a 4WD variant. Mahindra is expected to price the car around Rs. 21 lakhs and when launched it will take on Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Isuzu MU-X.
