Mahindra and Mahindra likely to begin work on its five-door version of the new Thar anytime soon

Mahindra and Mahindra is all set to begin the production of the five-door version of Thar anytime soon. The company will be launching the three-door Thar on October 2nd 2020.

Mahindra & Mahindra has finally given a green signal to the production of a five-door version of the new Thar. This will be a key addition to the Mahindra Thar line-up. The company is all set to roll out the much-anticipated three-door version of Thar on October 2nd 2020. However, Mahindra has a notion that the market for this three-door version will be limited. Thus, it has started working on a five-door Thar. Along with a new body, this version will have a longer wheelbase. We can also expect this version of Thar to rival the likes of the new-gen Force Gurkha and Suzuki Jimny in its segment.

Second Gen Mahindra Thar

Talking about the Second-Generation Mahindra Thar, then it has surely evolved over the previous generation. It will be available in two variants namely AX and LX. We can expect the price to fall in the price bracket of Rs 12 lakhs -Rs 15 lakhs (ex-showroom). Mahindra has equipped the SUV with advanced technology features. The cabin will boast of premium fabric upholstery. It will also stand to provide a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a six-speaker sound system, and a colored MID for the instrument cluster. Other highlights will include steering mounted controls, cruise control, rear parking sensors, height-adjustable driver’s seat among many others.

Under the bonnet, the Second-Gen Mahindra Thar will draw its power from both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variants will be powered by a 2.0-litre mStallion unit that will develop 152 bhp power and 320 Nm torque. The engine will be linked to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard along with 6-speed automatic transmission as an option. While the diesel variants will draw its power from a mHawk 2.2-litre 4-cylinder CRDi engine that will belt out 130 bhp power and 300 Nm torque. This engine will be paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox along with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission as an option. Also, a four-wheel-drive and a manual-shift transfer case will be offered as standard fitment across all the variants.
