Mahindra Thar Delivery to go up by 3 months

2020 Mahindra Thar sees unprecedented bookings with reports of a delay in deliveries.

Since Mahindra Thar arrived in the country in 2010, it is nothing short of roaring success in the Indian market. After years in development, the New-Generation Mahindra Thar was launched on October 2nd, 2020. 2020 Mahindra Thar price starts from Rs 9.80 lakhs (ex-showroom), India with the top-end trim retailing at Rs 13.75 lakh (ex-showroom). One of the highly anticipated SUV’s of the year, Thar's bookings crossed the 9,000 mark in just 4 days of its official launch. Further, Mahindra & Mahindra also revealed during the launch event that deliveries would commence from 1st November. But according to a recent media report, the waiting period could increase upto 3 months. A snapshot of the mail sent from Mahindra to a customer is doing the rounds on the internet. A customer who booked the SUV recently was given a delivery date of 19th January 2020 indicating that getting a new vehicle could take a bit longer.


The New Thar is retailed in three variants - AX, AX(optional) and LX in the domestic market. All three trims are offered with petrol and diesel engines with manual and automatic transmission options as well to choose from. According to various reports, the Indian buyers are more inclined towards the LX diesel variant with a manual transmission on-board. Thus the LX diesel manual trim retails at Rs 12.85 lakhs while the base diesel variant with a manual gearbox costs Rs 10.85 lakhs. All prices are ex-showroom, India. 


Major updates on the latest iteration of the Thar is a new square-shaped grille finished in black, circular headlamps with LED DRL's and a dual-tone bumper up front. The AX variant comes equipped with all-terrain R16 tyres while the LX trim rides on 18-inch alloy wheels. It comes in soft-roof as well as hard-roof configurations. The lower-end AX variant is offered with a fixed hard-top roof as standard with the option of a soft roof-top is also available. 


Talking about the powertrains available with the New-Gen Mahindra Thar, it is powered by a 2.0-litre petrol and a 2.2-litre 4-cylinder CRDi diesel engines. The petrol engine delivers 150 bhp of maximum power output and 350 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the diesel unit churns out 130 bhp of power and 320 Nm of torque. The engines are paired to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The AX variant only comes with a manual gearbox while the LX trim offers a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission option as  bonus.
