Mahindra Thar's removable hard-top variant has been spied testing in Chennai

Mahindra & Mahindra is currently focusing on fulfilling the existing demand of the newly launched Thar. The SUV has registered massive bookings, resulting in a waiting period of up to 10 months in certain cities. Recently, a new test mule of Mahindra Thar has been spotted doing test runs in Chengalpet near Chennai. The images of the same have been leaked online.

As per the leaked images, the test mule

of Thar was seen with a removable hardtop. As of now, it is offered in only two body formats - a convertible soft top and a fixed hardtop. Besides these, the Thar in the image looked quite similar to the standard hardtop variant. However, a closer look reveals that the roof has three segments - one covers the front section while the other two cover the rear. Talking about the standard hardtop variant, it comes with a two-piece roof.

The other change that we noticed is the rear screen mounts that look a bit different from the ones present in the standard hardtop variant. This further gives us a hint that a new convertible hardtop variant for the Thar might be on the cards.

As of now, there is no such confirmation for this. But if this hardtop variant makes it to the production stage then the customers can enjoy the comfort of the standard SUV with a hardtop on or remove it for an open-air experience. Talking about the soft-top variant of Thar, it has its own set of pros and cons. The variant comes with a comfortable cabin but at high speed, the soft top tends to flap. This is also the biggest concern when we talk about safety and security. Coming back to the convertible hardtop variant of Thar, if at all it is launched then we can expect it to be pricier than the standard hardtop variant.
