Mahindra’s electric car range includes the e2o+, the eSupro and the eVerito. They are powered by two battery systems – a 48V and a 72V. Although range and performance of the systems right now are just about adequate, the company confirmed that a more powerful 380V system will soon make its way into production.
Bigger vehicles (SUVs and MPVs) will be powered by this 380V unit. You will soon see models like the Scorpio and XUV500, which are currently sold with Mahindra’s mild-hybrid system, running with all-electric motors. This new system will also allow the company to electrify larger commercial vehicles, like its Tourister mini buses.
Mahindra has also confirmed that it is working on a high-end performance car with Pininfarina. The design company has always wanted to work on an electric vehicle, with a few concepts already been shown. Mahindra will leverage its racing expertise from the Formula championship for this project. This new platform will spawn two cars – one will be sold as a Mahindra while the other will be a Ssangyong car.
