Previously facelifted in 2015, the XUV500 will now undergo a second minor facelift, which will feature an updated engine that puts out more power.
Just like the upcoming Scorpio facelift, which will feature the more powerful 140hp, 2.2-litre diesel unit, the XUV500’s diesel motor will also receive a bump in power. The current car makes 140hp and this will be uprated to a substantial 170hp. Changes to torque figures haven’t been mentioned yet, but they will rise to complement the added power.
This bump in power will allow the SUV to match larger, seven-seat SUVs such as the Ford Endeavour and Toyota’s Fortuner. Updating the car’s existing 2.2-litre diesel engine allows space for the company to plonk its new 130hp, 1.6-litre diesel engine, that’s jointly developed with SsangYong, under the hood of the automaker’s upcoming MPV. The car is codenamed U321 and will make its India debut soon.
