In the coming months, Maruti Baleno Hybrid is expected to arrive in the Indian market

Speculation of a new Maruti Baleno is increasing since the manufacturer recently teased an image on their social media. Apart from the teaser, some new new spy shots have surfaced on the internet indicating the launch of a new Baleno is imminent. As of now, the premium hatchback comes with two petrol engine options - a 1.2-litre VVT petrol and a 1.2-litre Dualjet diesel. The latter comes equipped with a mild-hybrid option packed with features like torque assist and start-stop functions. There are now spy shots emerging of a Maruti Suzuki Baleno being tested with Vehicle Dynamic Testing Gear.

The images give us insights into the upcoming Baleno model. First, the hatchback is an original BS4 model with equipment fitted on all the 4 wheels. The testing equipment here would be the Vehicle Dynamic Gear. The other notable detail is the presence of a DDiS badge indicating that the test mule is an older BS4 diesel model. Thus the BS4 Baleno used to house a Fiat-sourced 1.3 Multijet Diesel engine. The discontinued model was being probably used for testing purpose while the petrol engine would be powering the upcoming Maruti Baleno Hybrid.

Talking about the powertrain, Maruti Suzuki Baleno Hybrid is expected to feature the same engine that powers the Swift Hybrid sold internationally. For the uninitiated, the Maruti Swift Hybrid was revealed during the 2020 Delhi Auto Expo in India. The showcased engine consisted of a 1.2-litre Dualjet petrol engine in combination with a 10 kW electric motor. The internal combustion engine churns out 91 bhp of power output and 118Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, the electric motor will deliver 13.5 bhp of power output and 30Nm of torque. There would be two transmission options of a 5-speed manual and 5 -speed AMT unit.

Plus, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno Hybrid is expected to feature a regenerative braking system. This will help in reducing fuel consumption in the hatchback. According to various reports, Baleno Hybrid will offer a fuel economy of 32 kmpl. This would appeal hugely to the Indian buyers who are conscious of fuel efficiency. Maruti Suzuki is finally bringing a hybrid vehicle to the Indian market after much delay. There have been a  slew of  EV and hybrid model introduction in the domestic market over the past few years.
