The company will launch the car at the Auto Expo 2018.

Here are five things you need to know about the 2018 Maruti Suzuki Swift:

1. It looks radically new

While maintaining the car’s overarching design language, Suzuki has managed to add enough bits and pieces to make it stand out from the earlier-gen cars. It still has the iconic curvaceous shape, but you get distinctly new headlights and tail-lights and nose.

2. Powered by the current range of engines

The current crop of engines - a 1.2-litre petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engine – will be sold. The diesel might be tuned to make more power though. The 2018 Swift will feature automatic options with both the petrol and the diesel variant. The company is evaluating other engines too, including a 1.5-litre motor and the three-cylinder 1-litre Boosterjet engine from the Baleno RS.

3. The chassis is lighter and stiffer now

Built on the same platform as the Baleno, this car is claimed to be 10-15 percent lighter, which will give it a performance and fuel economy advantage in its segment. The new platform is also 10 percent more rigid, in addition to being lighter and stiffer. The focus will be to make the car sportier to drive.

4. The interiors are sporty

The interior will be new, upmarket and sporty. The India-bound car may have a different interior layout than the Swift sold internationally. You can expect goodies such as a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink capability and paddle-shifters. This cabin will be more spacious and will come with a larger boot

5. Will be shown at the upcoming Auto Expo 2018

This next-gen Swift will go on sale shortly after its official reveal at the Auto Expo 2018. It will be placed below the Baleno, and takes on the Ford Figo and the Hyundai Grand i10.

Dealers have unofficially begun to accept bookings for the new model.
