Maruti Suzuki Jimny has finally made its first public appearance in the Indian market at the grand stage of Auto Expo 2020. The vehicle has been imported from Japan to only showcase as there is no official word on its launch yet. It is being learnt that Maruti will decide on launching the Jimny based on customer feedback. Being dubbed as a spiritual successor to the highly successful Maruti Gypsy, it will be priced between Rs 7-10 Lakhs if launched at all in India.
Suzuki Jimny is sold in several global markets including the UK and Europe. It being developed at the company's production facility in Japan. The Jimny measures 3.5 meters in length, 1.6 meters in width and 1.7 meters in height. The mini SUV has a wheelbase of 2250mm while the ground clearance stands at 210mm. The India-spec model is also likely to retain the dimensions from the global model, but it will go through a lot of homologation. The company could tweak the suspension and brakes to suit the Indian road conditions and make it affordable for buyers. The cabin is expected to be full of premium features.
Under the hood, it has a 1.5L petrol engine which belts out 100bhp and 130Nm torque. The engine is paired to a 5-speed manual transmission with power being transmitted to all the four wheels via the Suzuki’s All Grip 4x4 system which comes with a low-range transfer case. Although this may not make its way in the India-spec model to keep the costs in check.
