Maruti Suzuki makes 20 millionth vehicle

The company has crossed the milestone after 34 years and 5 months.

Maruti accounts for one in every two passenger vehicles sold in India, and the company has now officially crossed the 20-million-vehicle mark in the country. The car created for this landmark was a Swift and it rolled out of the Gujarat plant.

India is now the second country after Japan where Suzuki has reached this milestone. India is currently the fastest country to reach the 20 million units mark – the company took just 34 years and 5 months, while it took 45 years and 9 months in Japan.

Production is carried out at the Gurgaon and Manesar plants owned by Maruti Suzuki, and Suzuki's plant, at Gujarat. These plants produce 16 models including the Dzire, Baleno, Alto, Swift, Wagon R, and Vitara Brezza. In FY2017, approximately 1.78 million units were produced in India for both local sale and export.
