The world’s best-selling EV will be imported to India as a completely built unit (CBU) and will go on sale at the end of this year. With an expected price in the Rs 40-50 lakh bracket, the Leaf will serve as a technology demonstrator for Nissan in India.
Nissan will also face a challenge making the Leaf compatible with India's standard charging infrastructure. The Indian government plans to initiate a uniform charging infrastructure called Bharat EV Charger across the country, but it will take time to set it all up.
The car uses a 40kWh battery and makes 140hp. At full charge it can go up to 400km under the Japanese driving cycle and 380km under the New European Driving Cycle.
