Maruti Swift Hybrid has been imported from Japan and comes with a mileage of 32 kmpl.

Maruti Suzuki has showcased the Swift Hybrid at the Auto Expo 2020. The hatchback, like you all would have thought, doesn't come with the SHVS mild-hybrid system but a pure 48V hybrid system. The company has planned to replace the 12V SHVS system with the 48V hybrid system internationally. The Swift hybrid runs both on the petrol engine as well as on an electric motor.

Maruti Suzuki had launched the Swift last year with the BS6 compliant 1.2L K12B petrol engine alongside the Baleno. The company will equip it with the 48V mild-hybrid system. The other vehicles such as Ciaz, Baleno, Ertiga and S-Cross, though, will get a smaller 12V hybrid system. For those asking, SHVS helps in initial acceleration and comes with an auto start/stop system. Maruti Swift hybrid gets a range of 50 kilometers with the electric motor, but the added advantage is that once the electric motor is discharged, the car can be run on the petrol engine.

The hybrid has a mechanism of self-charging through the regenerative braking system. The Japan-spec model on display here offers a fuel economy of 32kmpl and it will make a lot of sense in the Indian market. It will help the company to fill in the gap created by the discontinuation of diesel models. The company might gradually equip all the other models in its portfolio with this technology as it is still skeptical going the all-electric way due to the lack of charging infrastructure.
