2020 began with a new set of challenges for the Automobile Industry with Coronavirus epidemic and BS6 emission norms deadline of 1st April 2020. Automotive brands are struggling to sell out their BS4 models before the sale and purchase of these vehicles ceases by next week. Weak consumer sentiment was one of the underlying reasons for all the manufacturers except Renault and Ford posting negative Year-on-Year sales growth in the month of February 2020.
Suzuki Swift made its debut way back in India during 2005 and hasn’t looked back since then. According to the 2020 car sales report, Maruti Suzuki Swift was the most sold car in India in the month of February, standing at 18,696 units sold. The Swift racked up a growth of 3% compared to the same month last year when it sold 18,224 units in the market defying the market’s overall sentiment. The Indian automotive manufacturer has a firm grip in the Indian market with Maruti Wagon R and Maruti Alto occupying the second and third spot. Wagon R secured the second spot with 18,235 units with Alto recording 17,921 units in February. Baleno is the fourth best selling vehicle in the Indian market with over 16,585 units sold in the last month.
Maruti Suzuki Swift is the latest car from the homegrown automaker to come equipped with a BS6 complaint petrol engine ahead of the April 2020 deadline. 2020 Swift doesn’t come with a diesel engine as Maruti has discontinued the diesel models for now. 2020 BS6 Swift is powered by 4 cylinder, 1197 cc engine generating 82 bhp of maximum power output and 113 Nm of peak torque. Transmission duties are carried out by both manual and automatic gearboxes. Safety features on-board this hatchback include dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist, reverse parking sensors, pedestrian protection compliance.
