There are reports that besides the Swift, Maruti Suzuki could extend this to the Vitara Brezza as well.

Recently, Maruti Swift completed a journey of 15 years in India and needless to say, it has been one of the most iconic and impactful cars in the country. In a new development, it is being learnt that it could get a BS6 1.2L DualJet petrol engine with SHVS 48V mild hybrid technology. The engine in the question here is already offered with the Baleno hatchback which is retailed via the NEXA premium chain of dealerships. The company might introduce the new engine with the 2020 Swift facelift which will be launched during the October-November festive season in the Indian market.

The mild-hybrid system will comprise of a lithium-ion battery and a belt starter generator. The additional features with this system will include torque assist function, idle start stop and brake energy regeneration. The inclusion of the mild-hybrid system with the 1.2L DualJet engine would increase the fuel efficiency of Swift upto a decent extent as compared to the ongoing K12B petrol engine. Though, the report further states that Maruti will not ditch the current engine at all as it would continue to power the base variants of the hatchback. The ongoing model of the hatch is offered with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT unit while priced in a range of Rs 5.19-8.02 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, Delhi).

Speaking about the BS6 compliant 1.2L DualJet petrol engine, it generates maximum power output of 89bhp at 6000rpm and peak torque performance of 113Nm at 4400rpm with the Baleno. The engine is linked with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard while no AMT or CVT automatic gearbox is on offer. As per Maruti Suzuki officials, this engine comes with optimized combustion efficiency and reduced friction. The engine uses sensors which are already there for precise fuel injection. The 48V mild-hybrid technology is already offered with the Ciaz and Baleno in the company's portfolio in India. There are rumors that besides the Swift, Maruti Suzuki could extend this to the Vitara Brezza as well.
