Maruti Suzuki is working on a CNG version of the Vitara Brezza for the Indian market. Recently, the engine specifications of the Maruti Vitara Brezza CNG were leaked on the web ahead of its official launch in the coming months. The company already has six CNG models in its portfolio namely Eeco, Alto, Wagon R, Celerio, Ertiga, and S-Presso. Besides the Vitara Brezza, it will also introduce CNG versions of Swift and DZire in the Indian market. Maruti Vitara Brezza CNG will have a rival in Tata Nexon CNG as and when they both are launched.
Going by the leaked document, the Vitara Brezza CNG will draw power from a 1.5L 4-cylinder K15B petrol engine. It will develop power output and torque performance of 91 bhp at 6000 rpm and 122 Nm at 4400 rpm, respectively. It is expected to come with a 5-speed manual gearbox which already does duties to the petrol-only version of the SUV. This is the same motor with identical power and torque that is on offer with the CNG version of the Ertiga MPV. The petrol-powered version of the Vitara Brezza churns out top power of 103 bhp at 6000 rpm and highest torque of 138 Nm at 4400 rpm with the same engine and transmission setup. Hence, the CNG model is going to be a bit less powerful than the petrol only version of the SUV.
The factory-fitted CNG kit will also feature dual interdependent ECUs and intelligent injection system. Due to the addition of this kit, the overall weight of the SUV will be increased as compared to the petrol model. The company might well tweak the suspension system and braking setup to accommodate the CNG kit. The exact launch timeline of the Vitara Brezza CNG is not known yet but we expect it to go on sale around the festive season in October in India. Maruti Vitara Brezza CNG price is believed to be around Rs 9-10 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom). Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki is also working on the second-generation Vitara Brezza which is going to be unveiled by mid 2022 in the Indian market.
