Maruti Suzuki has been lately working on an electric version of its popular tall-boy hatchback, WagonR. The test mule of the upcoming WagorR EV has been spotted doing test rounds on a number of occasions. Recently, it was spotted again in Gurgaon, Haryana wearing heavy camouflage. However, the company has not confirmed anything about the WagonR EV yet.
According to a media report, if launched, the electric version of the WagonR will initially be offered to the cab aggregators. At a later stage, the company plans to introduce it to the private car buyers. The WagonR EV is likely to take design inspiration from Maruti XL5. However, there will be plenty of visual differences between the two. The electric version of WagonR will get slight design changes on its exterior. Upfront, it is likely to feature vertically-split headlamps, bigger and wider grille along with resculpted bumper. While the rear end will be similar to the outgoing version. It is likely to get high-mounted taillights partially integrated into the C-pillar along with a new bumper design. The test mules spotted here featured 15-inch alloy wheels that seem to have been borrowed from Maruti Ignis.

As compared to the outgoing WagonR, the electric version will get the same interior layout but with slight changes. The gear lever will be replaced with a manual KERS (Kinetic Energy Regeneration System) selector in the WagonR EV. The upcoming model will also get an automatic regenerative braking system. It will feature LED lighting elements with an aim to save some power. The company has not revealed any information regarding the battery or the electric motor yet. However, it is being speculated that the driving range will be close to 170 kms - 190 kms on a single charge. It is also being said that the WagonR EV will be the cheapest high-voltage EV to go on sale in India.
