Mercedes Benz has launched the AMG E53 and AMG E63 S at Rs 1.02 crore and Rs 1.70 crore respectively in India
Mercedes Benz has just launched the performance-oriented AMG E53 and E63 S in the country. The former is priced at Rs 1.02 crore, while the latter is retailed at Rs 1.70 crore (all prices, ex-showroom).
Talking about the Mercedes AMG E53, it is the entry-level AMG model of the new E-Class facelift. The new model gets a number of AMG-specific design changes. Upfront, it features an AMG-specific grille with 12 vertical slats. In addition, it gets an aggressive bumper and an enlarged Mercedes logo. Towards the rear, the AMG model gets flatter tail lights, aerodynamically optimised reshaped apron, and a small boot-lip spoiler.
Moving inside the cabin of the E53, the overall layout is similar to the E-Class facelift. The sedan further comes equipped with a host of features. These include wireless phone chargers, a new twin-spoke AMG Performance steering wheel with larger aluminium paddle shifters and haptic feedback controls, a 360-degree parking camera, AMG badging dotted around the cabin, and sporty AMG seats up front. The cabin also boasts of a 12.3-inch touchscreen MBUX infotainment unit compatible with Android Auto & Apple Carplay and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Both screens offer bespoke AMG display options.
Mercedes AMG E63 S, on the other hand, is the range topping model. In terms of styling, it is a bit similar to the E53. However, it does feature a more aggressive bumper upfront. Other design bits include squared-off exhaust tips, a new rear diffuser, and 20-inch alloy wheels. In comparison to the E53, the feature list remains unchanged.
Performance-wise, the E53 is powered by a 3.0-litre, in-line, six-cylinder, twin-turbo petrol engine that churns out 434 bhp and 520 Nm peak torque. This powertrain also comes with Mercedes’ EQ Boost, 48V mild-hybrid unit that generates an additional 21 bhp power and 250 Nm torque. Transmission duties are handled by a 9-speed automatic gearbox and power goes to all four wheels via the Mercedes’ advance 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. Furthermore, Mercedes also offers AMG Ride Control+ air suspension as standard. The E63 S, on the other hand, uses the same 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine that powers the pre-facelift model.
The motor produces a maximum power of 611 bhp and a peak torque of 850 Nm while being mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. Mercedes AMG E53 does have have any direct rivals. However, the top-end E63 S will compete against the likes of BMW M5 Competition and the Audi RS7 in India.
The BS6 diesel engine with automatic 9-speed transmissions is accessible in two variants; semi-automatic prices will start at Rs. 4 lakhs more than that of the manual version.
