Mercedes Benz is all set to launch a sportier version of its popular mid-size SUV, the GLE on September 23, 2020. The bookings for the AMG GLE 53 4Matic+ will commence from today onwards. Interested buyers can easily get the bookings done either on the Mercedes Benz India’s online sales portal or at the nearest dealership.
The front fascia of the GLE 53 looks similar to its standard SUV sibling. Upfront the Coupe-SUV gets a vertically slatted Panamericana AMG grille. It also gets larger outer air inlets each with two side louvers in silver chrome. The front splitter also gets a silver chrome finish. At the side, the coupe-SUV rides on the light-weight 20-inch alloy wheels with the AMG lettering on it. Also, 21- and 22-inch wheels will be on offer as options. Furthermore, it also gets a steeper windscreen and rear window rake. The rear end of the coupe-SUV gets a bespoke design. The twin tailpipe AMG exhaust, side skirts, and spoiler add a sporty feel to the SUV.
Talking about the cabin of the GLE Coupe then it is quite similar to the standard GLE. It will get the dashboard layout that is similar to the one present in standard GLE. Also, It will be offered with AMG-specific interior features and controls that consist of a three-spoke AMG steering wheel with aluminium shift paddles. It is likely to get sports seats at the front. In addition, the coupe-SUV will also sport AMG brushed stainless steel pedals with rubber studs. Other feature highlights will include door sill panels and black floor mats with AMG lettering on it, two 12.3-inch screens, a six-way adjustable powered rear seat, a head-up display, a raised centre console with integrated grab handles, and a 13-speaker, 590W Burmester sound system. In comparison to the previous-gen GLE coupe, this new model gets a spacious cabin along with a longer wheelbase.
As for the safety features, the GLE 53 will come equipped with nine airbags, autonomous emergency braking, a 360-degree camera, and an adaptive suspension with active anti-roll bars.
Under the bonnet, the GLE 53 will draw its power from a 3.0L AMG 6-cylinder, an inline engine with twin-turbocharging and EQ boost. The engine will generate 435 bhp power and 520 Nm torque. The EQ boost will enable an additional 22 bhp power with 250 Nm torque. Power will be sent to all four wheels via Merc’s 9-speed 9G automatic transmission. Furthermore, Mercedes claims a 0-100 kph sprint time of 5.3 seconds along with a top speed limited to 250 kmph.
