Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S Coupe is the first AMG V8 model with EQ Boost in India

Mercedes Benz has launched the AMG GLE 63 S Coupe at Rs 2.07 crore(ex-showroom) in India. The new coupe is positioned at the top of the GLE range. 


Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S: Design

Design-wise, the GLS 63 S features a chrome-finished ‘Panamerica’ grille and raised ‘power domes’ in the bonnet upfront. In addition, it gets a large splitter finished in silver chrome and gaping black air intakes. On the side, the coupe features  22-inch alloy wheels. Moving towards the rear end, the car boasts of a black performance-style rear diffuser which further houses a bespoke AMG twin-exit exhaust system. Other design bits include a steeper windscreen and a rear window rake.

Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S: Features

Moving inside the cabin of the AMG GLE 63 S, it looks quite similar to the standard model. The dashboard is highlighted by two 12.3-inch screens (one for the infotainment and one for the instrument cluster) and a raised centre console with integrated grab handles. Furthermore, the coupe gets a few AMG-specific elements like an AMG-spec three-spoke steering wheel, AMG-specific Nappa leather-wrapped seats, aluminium shift paddles, and several AMG badges all over the interior. The safety kit comprises Active Brake Assist, dynamic handling control system, Blind Spot Assist, ESP, Active Ride Control with Active Roll Stabilisation, AMG cylinder management, and AMG electronic rear-axle limited-slip differential.

Mercedes AMG GLE 63 S: Engine Specifications

Performance-wise, the GLE 63 S is powered by a 4.0-litre, turbocharged V8 petrol engine paired with a 48V starter-alternator. The engine churns out a maximum power of 603 bhp at 6500 rpm and a peak torque of 850 Nm at 2500-4500 rpm. The 48V EQ Boost hybrid system generates a boost of 21 bhp and 250 Nm. Transmission duty is handled by a 9-speed automatic gearbox. The motor comes equipped with an active cylinder deactivation tech that shuts down four cylinders when it is under less load or if it is in ‘Comfort’ mode. The coupe is capable of achieving a top speed of 280 kmph. It can further accelerate from 0-100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds. The new GLS 63 S comes with seven drive modes, including a Race mode that is exclusive to the 63 S variant. It rivals the likes of the Audi RS Q8 and the Lamborghini Urus.
