Coronavirus outbreak has brought India to a standstill as the Indian government announced a national lockdown till April 14. The Indian government is deploying various departments and resources to effectively tackle the emergency arising out in the past few weeks. Apart from the authorities, Automobile firms are also joining the govt. In fighting the deadly virus by offering resources and funds. Mercedes Benz India announced on Wednesday that it will be setting up a temporary hospital in Pune to deal with the new cases.
The newly developed medical wing can take care of Coronavirus with setting up of isolation wards to take care of 1500 patients in Chakan in Pune. Apart from the hospital set-up, Mercedes Benz employees will voluntarily contribute one day’s salary to Maharashtra Chief Minister’s relief fund for COVID 19 pandemic.
Mercedes-Benz India will assist the Zilla Parishad with all the necessary infrastructure including the medical equipment required to create a temporary OPD, infrastructure for stay, stretchers, wheelchairs, PPE kits, sanitisers which are essential in the smooth functioning of the hospital and isolation ward.
Once the situation normalizes, the medical equipment will be donated to the Civil Hospital of Khed, and the assets from isolation wards will be donated to the tribal youth hostels. German Automaker is directly supporting the Grant Medical Foundation (Ruby Hall Clinic) by donating ventilators. Mercedes-Benz India said in a press release to the media outlets that will be supporting 1,600 families daily wage workers and BPL families from Khed and Viman Nagar area by providing them dry ration and cleaning kits.
Media outlets quoted Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India as saying “The new medical facility will help support the local authorities and the people of the region with healthcare in the coming times if the situation worsens.” “We stand together with our community and it remains our endeavour to support them and the authorities in every possible way. We hope for a steady recovery of the crisis and getting back to normalcy,” added Schwenk.
