The German carmaker ended 2017 with record sales numbers and has now registered its highest-ever sales for the fiscal, and the first quarter. Mercedes has also stated that it will introduce 10 vehicles in India during the year.
For the year ending March 2018, Mercedes-Benz India sold 16,236 units, which is a growth of 22.5 percent year-on-year. Also, in the first quarter of this year (January-March, 2018), the company sold 4,556 units, which is a rise of 25 percent.
The long-wheelbase E-class and the brand’s SUVs has helped drive sales. The GLC was the top-seller in the first quarter. The company also believes sales could be affected by the government's decision to hike customs duty in Budget 2018. "It might be a challenge to sustain this momentum in the coming quarters," Roland Folger, Managing Director and CEO, Mercedes-Benz India said. He said that the spike in Q1 sales could be attributed to the advancement of sales ahead of the customs duty-induced price hike.
