The car shares its platform with the E-class.

The company released a preview image of the CLS which it will display at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The New CLS’ design is inspired by the current E-class, but with sharper styling bits to match its sleeker shape. The car has been designed to focus on luxury and refinement, and the car will be slotted below the upcoming four-door AMG GT.

The car is powered by AMG's turbocharged 3.0-litre unit, mated to a 50kW electric motor. With a claimed power output of over 450hp, it also features regenerative braking technology as part of Mercedes’ 48V electric architecture that works to recharge its lithium-ion batteries.

The car will also feature some of the E-class’ semi-autonomous driving technology such as Speed Limit Pilot and Active Lane Change Assist. The next-gen CLS, however, will not be offered in any other body style.

The German carmaker will bring the CLS to India sometime next year.
