MG Motor is all set to unveil the production-spec version of Astor on September 15, 2021. The petrol-powered version of the brand’s first EV-ZS EV will be launched in the market in October this year. A few days back, Paralympic athlete and Khel Ratna awardee - Deepa Malik was appointed as the voice of the personal AI assistant.
MG Astor: Features
MG Astor will be positioned below the MG Hector in the brand’s India line-up. In terms of dimensions, it will be smaller than Hector. The British automaker recently announced that the SUV will get Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard across all the variants. Now we know that the upcoming Astor will get the Jio Saavn app installed on its 10.1-inch infotainment system to stream music/videos. Moving on, it will be powered through the i-Smart Hub.
Besides these, the new MG Astor is the first car from the automaker with an AI-powered personal assistant system that will follow voice commands and answer questions from online sources. The SUV also gets the Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) functions that include Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Prevention, Automatic Emergency Braking, Speed Assist, and Lane Keep Assist.
Performance-wise, we can expect the upcoming Astor to get a 1.5-litre, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that will be producing a top power of 119 bhp and a peak torque of 150 Nm. There might also be a more powerful 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine on sale. This particular motor is capable of returning 162 bhp power and 230 Nm peak torque. The transmission option will include both manual and automatic gearbox options.
Once launched in the Indian market, the Astor SUV will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks, Kia Seltos, Renault Duster, and Skoda Kushaq. Talking about the price, we can expect it to fall in the range of Rs 10 lakhs - Rs 16 lakhs (ex-showroom).
