MG Hector Bookings Opening Soon

MG launched their first ever SUV in India a couple of months ago and received humongous response from customers across the country. so huge that they had to actually stop taking bookings from the customers. Ever since the booking had started, MG had received more than 28,000 bookings which was way more than the production capacity of the manufacturing plant. The good news now is that MG is planning to resume bookings in October, just ahead of the festive season buying of Diwali.

Speaking to media, Rajeev Chaba, President & MD- MG Motor India said,

We cannot and don’t want to reopen the bookings till the time we have a clear idea of deliveries. So first we want to take care of our existing customers who have already booked and then we want to resume bookings. So, my guess is within October we should reopen the bookings.

MG has also come up with a solution where prospective buyers are being added to a waiting list without taking bookings. Idea is to convert these waiting lists into bookings whenever they resume booking in future. One of the main priorities in front MG Motors is to increase the production and not disappoint customers.

MG motor has so far delivered 2000 units and is aiming to deliver 3000 units in September. MG is also looking to import a bunch of parts, and hiring one more batch for the second shift so that they can ramp up the production and start taking bookings for the second batch from October itself.

Coming to the specifications of the Hector, it gets both petrol and diesel engine options along with a Hybrid powertrain. The petrol engine is a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit that generates a maximum power of 143 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque. It is available with manual as well as with a Dual-Clutch Transmission. The diesel engine in the Hector is a Fiat-sourced 2.0-litre unit that produces a maximum of 170 PS and peak torque of 350 Nm. This is the same engine that is already there in Harrier and Jeep Compass. The diesel variants only get a 6-speed manual transmission. Prices for MG Hector start at Rs 12.18 lakh ex-showroom and go up till Rs 16.88 lakh ex-showroom. The SUV rivals the likes of the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 and the Jeep Compass. In price terms, even the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos have some overlap with prices of the Hector. The Hector is currently the segment leader in terms of monthly sales.
