The auto sector in India is abuzz with the entry of Chinese-owned British brand in India. There have been numerous leaks about MG Motor’s first car in India, and the people have already become familiar with a lot of details of the upcoming Hector SUV. Upon launch, the upcoming car will lock horns with Mahindra XUV 500, Jeep Compass, and Tata Harrier in the Indian market. Now there are reports claiming that the company will launch the car in first half of 2019, possibly mid-June and the car will be unveiled in front of the public on 15 May 2019 and the bookings will also begin on the same date.
The company is already running adverts where famous actor Benedict Cumberbatch is seen talking about the features of Hector SUV. Talking of the features of the upcoming SUV, MG Hector will come with an inbuilt Airtel eSIM with the upcoming SUV ready to adopt the 5G technology. This extremely advanced feature will equip the MG Hector to get updated via the eSim, just like the technology used in the smartphones. Hector will be offered with iSmart system that offers cloud based connectivity. MG Hector’s iSmart feature too will provide the owner with real-time data about the vehicle on their smartphones. Other features of the iSmart system include tyre pressure monitoring, geo-fencing, live location tracking, door lock/unlock feature, ignition on, starting the air-conditioning system without even entering the vehicle. The app linked to iSmart feature will also let users access service history data at their convenience.
As far as the engine options for the MG Hector are concerned, the upcoming Chinese owned British brand SUV will come equipped with two engine options. The first will be a 1.5L liter turbocharged petrol and the other a 2L Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel, the latter being the same one found on Compass and Harrier. The outputs for petrol engine will be 143 Bhp-250 Nm, this puts it behind the Compass as the US maker’s SUV produces 160 Bhp-250 Nm. Whereas the diesel engine is supposed to be produce the same kind of output seen on Compass – 170 Bhp of power and 350 Nm. There has also been news on the transmission options for the 1.4L petrol engines of Hector. There will be two variants on offer, one a simple 6 speed manual transmission while the other being a 7-speed twin clutch gearbox reportedly developed jointly by SAIC and MG. The auto box is supposed to feature a special Sport mode and come equipped with paddle shifters.
The company will price the Hector SUV very aggressively and load it with features so that it can lure in the customers headed for Compass or Harrier. As far as features are concerned, the Chinese SUV will come with 360-degree parking camera, flat-bottomed steering wheel, cruise control, and TPMS. Apart from that the SUV will be equipped with dual-tone dashboard, sunroof on top models, LED projector headlamps, LED tail lamps, Harman Infinity audio system, 10.4 inch touchscreen infotainment system supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and leather seats.
