The Yaris is a practical and spacious sedan, and it comes loaded with features and safety kit.

The car will be positioned between the Etios and the Corolla Altis and will take on cars like the popular Honda City. While its styling isn’t very exciting, this car comes with a good amount of kit and, in true Toyota fashion, offers great comfort to is quite practical. Here’s what you need to know:

Dimensions

The City (4,440mm) and Ciaz (4,490mm) are longer than this car, the Yaris measures 4,425mm. It also has a slightly shorter wheelbase, at 2,550mm, compared to the City’s 2,600mm and Ciaz’s 2,650mm. The Yaris is as wide as the Ciaz, at 1,730mm. Space on the inside is quite generous – there’s lots of room and ample seating.

Engine

The car is powered by a single 108hp, 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder, petrol engine. This engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-step CVT (automatic transmission). Toyota may introduce a petrol-hybrid in the future also, which will be a segment first.

Features

Some features will be segment-firsts - like gesture control for the touchscreen infotainment system, a tyre pressure-monitoring system, 60:40 rear seat split, adjustable three-neck restraints for the rear seat, roof-mounted rear air-con with ambient lighting, a powered driver’s seat and front parking sensors.

Safety

Safety kit is also great, with a lot of segment firsts here as well. It gets all-wheel disc brakes, seven airbags (including a driver knee airbag), Hill-Start Assist, ABS, EBD and ESP. This fully-loaded version of the Yaris scored five stars in ASEAN NCAP crash tests.

Price

Toyota’s plant in Karnataka will be where the Yaris will be manufactured. There are a lot of local parts that will be used, which will allow Toyota to price the car very competitively. You can expect it to be between ₹8.4-13.5 lakh (ex-showroom).
