The updated 2019 version of the Bajaj Dominar is yet to be launched officially but a Delhi based showroom claims that it will be priced at Rs 1.78 lakh, ex-showroom. This makes it just 15,000 more expensive than the earlier model and given the changes, translates into better value for money.
Bajaj has made a host of changes to the updated model, taking into feedback from its customers. The biggest change comes in the form of added performance from the same engine. Making use of a new DOHC (double overhead camshaft) and a higher compression ratio, maximum power gets bumped to 40PS as compared to 35 on the earlier model. This means the 2019 versions is quicker and faster and yet remains as frugal as the outgoing model. We rode the bike earlier this month and found the engine to smoother as well, erasing the earlier version’s biggest shortcoming. Maximum torque remains unchanged and the bike gets the same 5-speed manual gearbox that offers smooth and precise shifts. We rode the bike for an extended period of time in Pune and came back with a smile on our face.
The 2019 Dominar also gets more features. This includes USD of upside down forks up front for better dynamics, improved rider information display, a new tank pad among other features. The handle’s bar ends are new for reduced vibrations, crash guard is wider and you also get four little straps under the pillion seat to secure your luggage with bungee cords. There is also a prominent D logo embossing on the rear seat. A big design change is the new dual exhaust set-up that looks big and also sounds great on the move. The exhaust note is throaty with deep bass and remains so even at the higher end of the rev range.
The bike continues to come with a dual channel ABS and slipper clutch as standard. There is a new color option, the one you see here and this looks great in our opinion. It continues to lock horns with bikes like the Honda CBR250R, Royal Enfield Himalayan and its own cousin, the KTM Duke 390. Bookings opened up a few weeks back as deliveries will start early next month.
