Car shopping this month? You’re in luck. It’s that time of the year when carmakers revise their line-ups and offer discounts on existing models to make way for the updates that will soon hit their showrooms. So check out this list before heading out to bargain with the dealers.
Hatchbacks
Maruti Alto K10 AMT – ₹45,000 off
This is Maruti’s cheapest automatic on the market and now comes with a discount of ₹45,000. It’s a lively 1.0-litre petrol engine with the ease that comes with an AMT gearbox. Its competition includes the Renault Kwid AMT and the upcoming Tata Tiago AMT.
Volkswagen Polo – Up to ₹35,000 off
VW’s entry-level model in India, the Polo has been available in India for years now. Its USPs include quality interiors and a high-torque diesel engine. It is available now with a discount that is near Rs 35,000 on most of its options and across dealerships.
Hyundai i20 petrol – Up to ₹30,000 off
Thanks to stiff competition from the Maruti Baleno and Honda Jazz, Hyundai is offering discounts of up to Rs 30,000 on the petrol version of the i20 across all its dealerships.
Sedans
Chevrolet Cruze – ₹2 lakh off
The Cruze has a strong diesel engine but has been around for quite some time now. Its rivals – the Elantra, Corolla Altis and the Skoda Octavia – have received regular updates and in comparison the Cruze feels dated. The top-end variant of the Cruze is available with a ₹2 lakh discount with most dealers across India.
Nissan Sunny – Up to ₹1 lakh off
Known for its generous interior space, large boot space and a smooth 1.5-litre engine, the Sunny is a comfortable sedan. Discounts for it are available from ₹80,000 to ₹1 lakh. It falls in the same segment as the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City, Skoda Rapid and VW Vento.
Hyundai Verna – Up to ₹1 lakh off
This stylish edition of the Verna has been selling well in India since 2011. It is due for an overhaul later this year. It comes with two petrol and two diesel options and is being offered with a discount of up to ₹1 lakh.
Hyundai Xcent petrol – Up to ₹52,000 off
This is a popular compact sedan from Hyundai that has given stiff competition to the Zest, Dzire and Amaze. It is slated to receive an update in the next few months. You can save up to ₹52,000 at dealerships across the country.
Maruti Ciaz – Up to ₹50,000 off
It’s time for the Ciaz to receive some minor updates. It may even be moved to the Nexa dealerships. Discounts for it are in the range of ₹35,000 to ₹50,000.
Skoda Octavia – Up to ₹1 lakh off
This is a solid, stylish rival to the Volkswagen Jetta and the Hyundai Elantra. Making it more attractive are discounts from ₹75,000 to ₹1 lakh, depending on availability. It will be getting an update soon, so bargain very hard with the dealer and you could even get more benefits with it.
SUVs/MPVs
Volvo XC60 – Up to ₹10 lakh off
Practical, stylish and with a strong 181hp engine, the XC60 battles newer SUVs like the X3, GLC, Discovery Sport and Audi Q5. An all-new model will arrive in India later this year, so the close-to ₹10 lakh discount is to clear out old stocks.
Renault Duster AWD – Up to ₹1 lakh off
The facelifted Renault Duster is being offered with discounts of up to Rs 1 lakh on its higher variants. The AMT equipped option is also being offered with discounts of around ₹50,000 by certain dealers.
Honda CR-V – Up to ₹1 lakh off
The CR-V offers its owners a comfortable ride and is good to drive and own. Its lack of a diesel option is what turns buyers off and it has now started to feel dated. Discounts of up to ₹1 lakh are being offered on all CR-Vs.
Maruti S-Cross (2016) – Up to ₹25,000 off
This is Maruti’s flagship for India and is sold through the Nexa dealerships. A discount of ₹25,000 is being offered on all 2016 models of the S-Cross with the 1.3-litre engine still left with dealers.
The Duster compact SUV is likely to be launched in India sometime in 2025.
