Mahindra & Mahindra has finally unveiled the new-gen 2020 Thar at its design studio in Mumbai, India. It will be launched on October 2, 2020 in the Indian market, which also happens to be Mahindra's 75th Anniversary. The bookings and deliveries of the new rugged off-roader from the day of its launch on October 2. The new-gen 2020 Mahindra Thar has been presented in two trims: AX Series and LX Series. The Thar off-roader will be challenging Force Gurkha and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Jimny in the country.
Mechanically, the 2020 Mahindra Thar comes with a set of BS6 compliant petrol and diesel engines. The petrol variants are powered by a 2.0L mStallion engine while the diesel variants draw power from the 2.2L 4-cylinder CRDi engine. Talking about 2020 Mahindra Thar AX, it comes with a fixed soft top as standard. Being a 6-seater vehicle, it has 2 Front + 4 Side facing layout. Some of the other features include 16-inch white steel wheels, Steel footsteps, Power steering, Power windows, HVAC etc. to name a few. However, the customers can also opt for a Convertible/hard top, Front facing rear seats with ISOFIX, Remote keyless entry and Height adjustable driver seat as option. The 2020 Thar AX would be offered with both petrol and diesel engines, albeit with a 6-speed manual gearbox only.
Coming to 2020 Mahindra Thar LX, it comes with a convertible/hardtop option with a 4-seater configuration. The SUV flaunts LED DRLs, fog lamps and dual-tone bumpers while riding on 18-inch alloy wheels. The cabin is finished in a premium fabric upholstery while packed with a plethora of features such as Height and lumbar adjustment on front seats, all-new instrument cluster with colored TFT, Roof mounted speakers, touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, first-in-segment Real-time adventure stats, Cruise Control and Multi-function steering wheel. The safety features include Dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, Hill Hold and Hill Descent Control, 3-point seatbelts for all the passengers and ISOFIX Child Seats. The 2020 Thar LX will also be available with both petrol and diesel engines with the 6-speed manual unit as standard. However, it can also be availed with a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission in both petrol and diesel fuel trims.
