Great Wall Motors (GWM) is working on the all-new Haval H5 SUV, confirm the recent images that have been leaked on the web. The production of the older model ended in 2017 and the leaked images show that the new model which is under work is radically different from the discontinued model as far as styling goes. The company has already confirmed that it will enter the Indian market by late 2021 and it has already acquired GM's production facility in Talegaon. It showcased a big range of SUVs at the 2020 Auto Expo, which included a few models from sub-brand Haval too.
Going by the leaked images, the new-gen Haval H5 features a rather conventional and boxy layout. The older model's softer and rounded off front fascia has gone for a toss in favor of a more squarish one. There is a new headlamp setup at the front while the grille and bumper are also newer ones. The SUV comes with roof racks as well as black cladding to lend it a more rugged appearance. The new-generation Haval H5 is more proportionate than the older one. The dimensions have been kept same as the older model at 4649mm, 1810mm, and 1735mm for length, width and height, respectively. The wheelbase is also carried over from the previous model which measures at 2700mm. The cabin details and pictures have not been revealed yet but we expect it to boast of some of the latest tech and features.
HWM has not officially released the technical specifications of the new H5 SUV but we believe that it will be offered with three engine options: 1.5L petrol-hybrid, 1.5L turbocharged petrol and a 2.0L turbocharged petrol engine. The 1.5L and 2.0L turbo petrol engines also power the other Haval SUVs as well such as the Haval F7. Haval H5 will take on the likes of Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500 and MG Hector in the Indian market. In addition to the Haval H5, the company had also showcased the H9, F7, F7X, H concept, F5 and Vision 2025 concept at the 2020 Auto Expo in February earlier this year. However, it has not officially confirmed whether all these models will go on sale in India or not.
