The new XUV500 will see improvement in design, features and engine options as compared to the ongoing model

The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 launch has been in the news for almost a year now. It has been spotted testing multiple times last year with launch expected in April 2021. Mahindra had previously confirmed the launch of new-gen Thar, Scorpio and XUV500 in the coming months. As we already know, New-gen Mahindra Thar was launched on October 2, 2020 while the XUV500 and Scorpio are scheduled to follow the suit this year. The 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will see improvement over the current model in terms of design, features and engine options. Thanks to our friends at Rushlane, we have got our hands on spy images of the upcoming XUV500 with a panoramic sunroof. It will rival the likes of Tata Gravitas, MG Hector Plus and the upcoming 7-seater Hyundai Creta. Expect the upcoming SUV to retail in the price bracket of Rs 13 lakh - Rs 21 lakh (ex-showroom, India).

The new XUV500 will sport a completely new design while being bigger in comparison to the current model. In the new spied images, one can spot large C-shaped LED DRLs housing projector LED lights. The most interesting update is the appearance of a new Mahindra logo in the front grille. Accentuating the premium appearance is the inclusion of vertical chrome slats in the grille. At the rear, the SUV will sport large LED tail lights. A new set of alloy wheels will be available in single tone colour as well as dual-tone shade for the top-end trims.

Expect the cabin to be more spacious and packed with plenty of new features like dual digital display for the touchscreen infotainment and instrument cluster, automatic climate control and connected car technology. Wireless charging is expected to make its debut along with Level 1 autonomous driver assistance systems. If autonomous technology makes its way to the SUV, it will make the cheapest car to have it. MG Gloster is the other car to have it but it retails at a price of Rs 28.8 lakhs (ex-showroom, India).

Talking about performance, the 2021 Mahindra XUV500 will come with two engine options: 2.2-litre, 4 cylinder turbocharged mHawk diesel and new 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine. There is no information about the performance figures but expect to deliver more than the current model. Apart from the manual gearbox, the manufacturer will offer automatic and all-wheel drive options too.
