The car will feature a seven-seat cabin.

The all-new, fifth-generation CR-V will launch in India sometime next year. The model will be similar to the ASEAN-spec model sold in Thailand and will feature a seven-seat layout, instead of a five.

The current cars 2.4-litre unit, that makes 190hp and is mated to an automatic gearbox, will continue. The India-spec CR-V will also feature a diesel engine for the first time here. A 1.6-litre i-DTEC unit good for 158hp at 4,000rpm and 350Nm of torque at 2,000rpm, mated to an all-new ZF nine-speed automatic gearbox, will feature in the CR-V. The diesel engine will be locally assembled in India and both engine options are likely to be offered with front-wheel drive and optional AWD.

The new CR-V's design is a clean departure from the earlier model, and it looks more angular and modern than its predecessor. The new car features a wheelbase that’s 41mm longer, and thanks to some smart packaging, there’s more space in the inside, leading to an increase in rear legroom and a larger boot.

The new CR-V comes with an automatic shutter grille tech that lowers aerodynamic drag. There’s a new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car comes with features like remote engine start, dual-zone climate control, heated wing mirrors, and an electric parking brake, along with equipment such as USB charging ports for the second row, a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat and an eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat.

The addition of a diesel engine is bound to increase the appeal of the CR-V in India.
