The new base variant of Hyundai i20 misses out on several premium features

Hyundai India is all set to launch a new base variant of the i20 hatchback in the country. It was spotted at a dealership which clearly indicates that the official launch will take place soon. The company is expected to name the new entry-level variant as Magna Executive or Era while it will be positioned below the Magna grade in the hatchback's line-up. The third-gen Hyundai i20 was launched in the Indian market in November 2020 while it takes on the likes of Volkswagen Polo, Tata Altroz and Maruti Baleno.

Going by the spy-images, one can clearly notice that the new base variant of Hyundai i20 misses out on several premium features. It doesn't get fog lamps and alloy wheels while steering-mounted control and touchscreen infotainment system have also been removed from it. Presently, Hyundai i20 Magna is the base trim which is equipped with features like LED fog lamp units, 2-DIN audio system, 15-inch steel wheels and steering mounted controls. It is priced at Rs 6.85 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom, New Delhi), so we can expect the new entry-level variant to come with a starting price of around Rs 6 Lakhs as both Maruti Baleno and Tata Altroz start at Rs 5.97 Lakhs and Rs 5.80 Lakhs, respectively (Both the prices are Ex. Showroom, Delhi).

The new entry-level Hyundai i20 variant is expected to come loaded with the naturally aspirated 1.2L petrol engine which develops top power of 82 bhp and peak torque of 115 Nm. It will be offered with a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. It will not get the clutchless IVT (Infinitely Variable Transmission) gearbox even as optional. The other engine options for Hyundai i20 include a 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine which generates maximum power output of 118 bhp and highest torque performance of 172 Nm. It comes with a Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) and a 7-speed DCT automatic unit as standard. The diesel variants, on the other hand, are powered by a 1.5L motor which belts out 99 bhp and 240 Nm while paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
