Jeep is planning to launch the 7-seater SUV codenamed H6 in the country in 2022. The new model will not carry the ‘Compass’ moniker. Instead, it will debut with an all-new nameplate. Now, this new name is likely to be revealed on April 4, 2021. The company has selected the date April 4 because it has been observing April 4 as the ‘Jeep 4X4 Day’ since 2016. Talking about the price, we can expect the H6 to fall in the range of Rs 30 - Rs 35 lakhs. Once launched, it will compete with the likes of Volkswagen Tiguan Allspace, Ford Endeavour, and Toyota Fortuner.
The H6 will share its monocoque platform with the Compass. In terms of dimensions, the upcoming SUV will be taller, longer, and wider than the Compass. Furthermore, it will also get a longer wheelbase. The company wants to differentiate the new H6 from the standard Jeep offerings. In this context, Jeep wants the H6 to have an identity of its own. The new SUV will get design elements that will differentiate it from the Jeep Compass. However, design bits like the seven-slot front grille will remain the same so as to relate to the Jeep heritage. Ralph Gilles, head of the design of Fiat Chrysler Automobile, believes that H6 is a very ‘purpose-built’ vehicle.
Performance-wise, the H6 might get Compass’s 2.0-litre diesel engine but in a higher state of tune of around 198 bhp. Besides this, the SUV will also get a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and an all-wheel-drive functionality.
