For India, the new Micra will be developed on Renault-Nissan’s low-cost, CMF-A+ platform; diesel engine unlikely.

Nissan’s Swift-rivalling hatchback will be replaced by an all-new model in 2019. In the looks department, the new model is a significant departure from the current one on sale in India. Not only does it look sharper, it is also bigger than the current Micra.

While the car sold internationally is built on Nissan’s V platform, the car headed for India will spawn from Renault-Nissan’s low-cost, CMF A+ underpinnings.

The same building blocks will also be used for the upcoming replacement for the Sunny Sedan, which will be launched in 2018.

Expect the new Micra and Sunny to be powered by a 106hp, 1.5-litre petrol; the hatchback, however is not likely to get the option of a diesel motor.

It will be offered with the choice of a CVT automatic gearbox, while a five-speed manual will be standard.
