Maruti is likely to introduce the third-generation of its entry-level Alto hatchback in the domestic market

Maruti Alto has been one of the most successful models for the automaker since its inception in 2000. The entry-level hatchback has been in the domestic market for about 20 years now. The second-generation of the model was launched in 2012. Following this, the company is now all set to introduce the third-generation of Alto in the Indian market anytime soon. This is evident as the next-gen Alto has been spotted doing test runs quite a few times in the past. Not many details were revealed due to heavy camouflage. Recently, the next-gen Alto was rendered which gives us a fair idea of how the hatchback is different from its predecessor.

Since the next-gen Alto is an entry-level car in the Maruti’s product line-up, it will not get any sporty features. As per the rendering image, we can clearly see that the next-gen Alto might get a totally different design from the outgoing version. Upfront, it gets newly-designed headlamps. We can also see in the image that the model gets conventional lift-top-open door handles along with fender-mounted turn indicators. In terms of dimensions, this new car looks bigger and taller than the outgoing version. Furthermore, the next-gen 2021 Maruti Alto gets an upright stance that increases the headroom space inside. On the sides, it gets steel rims with a set of wheel caps. The current model misses out on the alloy wheels.

Under the hood, the next-gen Alto is likely to get the same 796 cc, 3-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that powers the outgoing version. This engine produces a maximum power output of 47 bhp and a peak torque of 69 Nm. The engine is further mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. As for the next-gen Alto, we can expect it to get a 5-speed AMT gearbox as an option. It might also get CNG as a fuel option. Talking about the mileage, the current model offers an ARAI certified 22.05 kmpl. While the CNG trim offers a mileage of 31.59 km/kg.
