Nissan Magnite has been spied testing alongside Renault Kiger on the Indian roads ahead of its launch. Both the subcompact SUVs are scheduled to launch in the country but it will be the Kiger first in and around the festive season (November 2020) followed by the Magnite in early 2021. Nissan India has been teasing the Magnite through several short videos while Renault has not yet made any official statement regarding the Kiger. The duo will be locally developed at Renault-Nissan Alliance's production facility in Tamil Nadu.
Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite were spotted with heavy camouflage as visible by the spy-images. We can figure out from the pictures that Kiger, the French brand's first sub 4-meter SUV in India, will get a LED tail-lamp cluster. In addition, one can spot sculpted boot structure, grey coloured roof rails and plastic cladding in black color. The rear end of Renault Kiger boasts of a raked windscreen as compared to Nissan Magnite while it comes with a taller stance as well. Both the subcompact SUVs will be based on the CMF-A architecture which already underpins Renault Triber but each will have its own distinct identity. The Magnite will take styling inspiration from Nissan's latest Kicks SUV in India while the Kiger will take designing cues from the Kwid.
Mechanically, both Renault Kiger and Nissan Magnite will draw power from a BS6 compliant 1.0L 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with top power of 72bhp. There will also be a turbocharged version of the same engine with power output of 95bhp. While the naturally aspirated engine will be on offer with base and mid variants, the more powerful turbo version will power the top-end variants. Renault Kiger will come with both manual and CVT gearbox options while Nissan Magnite will get a manual and AMT unit. The pricing of both the SUVs will be highly aggressive as they would come with heavy localization. We expect the starting price around Rs 5.50 Lakhs (Ex. Showroom).
