For the first time, Nissan is entering the highly competitive and popular subcompact SUV segment in India. Nissan Magnite will go head-to-head against established players like the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue and newly-launched Kia Sonet in its segment. Also, it is the first product under Nissan’s NEXT strategy for the fast-growing Indian automotive market. As we move closer to the launch, the Japanese manufacturer is releasing technical details about the upcoming subcompact SUV.

As we are aware, Nissan Magnite will be retailed in 3 variants with all offering different mileage figures. While the naturally aspirated 1.0 petrol engine paired with 5-speed manual gearbox will provide a mileage of 18.75 kmpl. On the other hand, the 1.0-litre Magnite Turbo-MT will return a figure of 20 kmpl. All figures mentioned here are are ARAI-certified.

Magnite is creating expectations in the market ahead of its launch with the price being a key factor in Nissan’s attempt to storm the subcompact segment in the country. Apart from the mileage, the brand has disclosed other details like dimension, weight and engine specifications. Talking about the dimensions, Nissan Magnite measures 3998mm in length, 1,758 mm in width and 1, 572 in height. Its wheelbase stands at 2,500mm with a ground clearance of 205mm. As for the CVT turbocharged model, it will be heaviest at 1039 kgs.

Nissan India will offer two petrol engine options with the Magnite with no diesel unit coming in the near future. Thus talking about them, first will be a naturally aspirated 1.0-litre petrol engine that delivers 72 bhp of power output and 96 Nm of peak torque. The engine will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. While the other will be a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol unit churning out  100 bhp of power output with 160 Nm of peak torque. It will come paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This turbocharged petrol engine also comes with Nissan’s signature X-TRONIC CVT gearbox. In this case, the torque has been reduced to 152 Nm.

Expect the manufacturer to price Nissan Magnite in the range of Rs 5.5 lakhs - Rs 7.5 lakhs (ex-showroom), India. Magnite's lightweight body, good fuel efficiency and competitive pricing could pave the way for Nissan's success in the Indian market.
