Noida Police has issued stringent rules stating that any violator having 3 strikes will cancel out their driving license.

Police have begun to crack down on cars and drivers responsible for traffic violations in Gautam Budhh Nagar, so expect more stringent traffic laws in Noida and Greater Noida. In the most recent development, all car owners and drivers are advised by Noida Police to exercise caution when they receive challans. If a driver receives three citations for violating traffic laws, the Noida Police will suspend their driver's license.

The rule went into effect because there are still a lot of people breaking traffic laws in Noida and Greater Noida. In Gautam Budhh Nagar, riding without a helmet, speeding, driving on the wrong side of the road, and jumping signals are the most common traffic infractions. The Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) was recently implemented in Noida, making it the first city in Uttar Pradesh to do so. Using high-definition cameras positioned at multiple strategic locations and intersections, the fully digital and integrated system assists law enforcement in identifying traffic infractions.

According to Noida Police, if a driver or rider receives more than three challans, the government will cancel their license. “In line with instructions given by Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety and as per the decision taken in the meeting of Uttar Pradesh Road Safety Council, action will be taken to cancel the licence of a person who gets more than three challans in a row for offences like red light jumping, over speed, overloading, carrying passengers in good vehicles, use of mobile phone while driving, or drunken driving,” the police said in a statement. Noida Police also confirmed that the registration of the vehicle of repetitive offenders will also be suspended, even cancelled.

Up until September of this year, the Noida Police had issued over 14 lakh challans to infractions of the traffic laws. This amount is over twice as much as what the police reported for the previous year. Nearly 70,000 of these challans were given to cars that were speeding. Running a red light was the second most common offense to result in a ticket. Over 10,000 tickets for using a phone while driving were issued this year.

In Noida and Greater Noida, there have been about 1,000 cases. These incidents have claimed the lives of close to 400 people and injured a number of others.
