The all-electric Ioniq 5 sedan will mark the beginning of Hyundai’s BEV expansion plans in India
Hyundai India has officially confirmed the launch of the all-electric Ioniq 5 sedan in the second half of this year in the country. Being the recent World Car of the Year (WCOTY) 2022 winner, it will mark the beginning of Hyundai’s BEV expansion plans in India. Hyundai Ioniq 5 is based on the brand's globally acclaimed Skateboard Platform E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) while the term IONIQ is a fusion of “ion” and “unique”. The E-GMP architecture can spawn multiple body types with a modularized battery system.
The E-GMP features a low centre of gravity while it is built of ultra high strength steel with 8-point battery mounting. Commenting on the announcement, Mr. Unsoo Kim, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said, “As a customer centric brand, Hyundai is focussing very strongly on electric mobility across its businesses and product range for a progressive and sustainable future.
