Ola electric scooter is one of the most talked-about news in the Indian automotive industry. Since Ola announced their plans to enter the fast-growing EV segment, there is much speculation about it. New striking visuals of the upcoming Ola electric scooter has been revealed ahead of a possible launch by the end of 2021. Apart from the images, we also got an insight into Ola’s production facility. Touted to be the world’s largest two-wheeler factory, it has an annual capacity of 10 million units. Some might call the "Ola FutureFactory" an Indian answer to Tesla’s production abilities. The huge manufacturing unit is built over 500 acres in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu in India. Ola claims the new manufacturing unit will produce 2 scooters per second which is a remarkable number for any EV manufacturer.
With the production facility in place, Ola plans to make a grand entrance in the EV segment. Bhavish Aggarwal led Ola plans to export electric two-wheelers internationally apart from selling them in India. Ole electric scooter will rival the likes of Ather 450X, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak in the domestic market. Prices will be kept below Rs 1 lakh mark to rival the ICE powered scooters also.
Going by the released images, the upcoming electric scooter is quite similar in design to the Etergo AppScooter. The images do give further insights into the Ola electric scooter. Indian buyers can look forward to a single telescopic front suspension for a comfortable riding experience. Also, the scooter’s headlight with twin-pod LEDs lends a distinctive appearance. According to the manufacturer, the AppScooter can go from 0 to 45kmph in just 3.9 seconds. Plus, the scooters boasts an under-seat storage capacity of 50 litres and a TFT instrument panel. More about the battery capacity will be revealed in the coming days but the scooter promises to touch a top speed of 100 kmph.
In May 2020, Ola had acquired a Netherlands-based electric scooter company, Etergo. The company is itself quite new to the EV market as Etergo was launched just five years ago. The AppScooter had earned appreciation at various events like the CES 2019 and Automotive Brand Contest in Germany. The major highlight of the scooter was the use of swappable high energy density batteries. It helped the scooter in delivering a range of up to 240km on a single full charge.
