Maruti Suzuki Dzire sells over 19 lakh units in a decade.

Maruti Suzuki has been dominating the small car segment in the Indian market ever since the company came into existence. Various models from India's largest maker have been at the helm of the best selling charts since a long time and one among them is the Dzire sub-4 meter compact sedan. The recent upgrade to the model in the Indian market has made the sedan an even more attractive option for the customers. Now there are reports that the sub compact sedan from the Indian maker has become the fastest seller in the Indian market. Initially launched in the larger segment the Dzire was shortened to meet the sub 4 meter size right after the subsidies for the smaller cars were introduced in the Indian market. Ever since being shortened in 2009, the Dzire has managed to stay on the best seller lists in the Indian market.

With the onset of 2019, the sub-4 meter compact sedan from India's largest carmaker has completed a decade in India. Now the brand has revealed that in these years the company has managed to dispatch more than 19 lakh units of the sedan. This goes on to show the high popularity of the car in India.

Talking about this achievement, the executive director of marketing and sales at Maruti Suzuki India Limited stated,

“The brand Dzire has been a major contributor to Maruti Suzuki’s journey and we express our gratitude to customers. With the launch of Dzire, we created a new ‘compact sedan’ segment. This segment is continuously evolving and growing. Over the years, Maruti Suzuki Dzire has led this growth and it continues to be relevant and attractive to customers. A testimony to its strong customer connect is that the sales of third-generation Dzire went up by nearly 20%. We keep an ear to the ground to sense customers’ demands and translate them into features in our cars. The hugely popular Auto Gear Shift (AGS) technology is available across six variants of the Dzire. Nearly 13% of buyers have chosen the automatic variant. Interestingly, for half of the new Dzire customers, the compact sedan is their first car purchase. This shows a paradigm shift of the Indian customers who are ready to start their car ownership with a sedan,”

It was only in April that the Dzire had managed to surpass the bestseller Alto in the market as well. The rise in the number of sales of Dzire is also indicative of a general shift in the pattern of the Indian car market. As the disposable income in the country is rising the customer is looking for more expensive options in the Indian market, not to mention that cab aggregators are also buying models such as Dzire in greater quantities because the smaller cars are falling out of favor among their customers.

Talking of Dzire itself, the sub 4 meter compact sedan from the company comes with the option of both petrol and diesel engines in the market. The petrol engine is a 1.2L unit rated to deliver 83 Bhp and 113 Nm and comes with the choice of a 5-speed manual or AMT automatic transmission. On the other hand the diesel engine is a 1.3L Fiat sourced unit rated to deliver 74 Bhp and 190 Nm, this too comes with both manual and automatic transmissions as option.
