The brand is set to become Volvo's technological spearhead.

Polestar boss Thomas Ingenlath, who is also Volvo’s design director, said the company will become Volvo’s “technological spearhead” and will make only electric performance cars after the Polestar 1 goes on sale. The company is also working on the launch of the Polestar 2, which is a Skoda Octavia-like notchback, and the Polestar 3 SUV.

Polestar's volume may reach 80,000-90,000 cars annually and Ingenlath said that more models are being considered in areas that wouldn’t be mainstream enough for Volvo.

The company also has a bespoke marketing setup aimed at increasing convenience for owners and moving beyond the traditionally customer-dealer relationship. You can get cars by a monthly subscription that also includes things like insurance and servicing. You can have the car picked up from your home or workplace and delivered after being serviced.

The company plans to open 80 Polestar 'spaces' around the world to sell its cars, of which eight are expected to be in the UK.
