Blume has revealed that the carmaker intends to discontinue using diesel engines in its cars from the year 2020. There is no final decision on this matter yet though.
Blume stated that the current generation of diesel engines might be its last. The carmaker could then gradually phase out the diesel motors in favour of petrol engines, plug-in hybrid drivetrains and electric motors. Around 15 percent of all new vehicles sold by Porsche have diesel motors under the hood – thanks to the popularity of cars like the Cayenne and Macan. The company has increased the amount it has invested in electric tech and will be looking to expand its range of electric and hybrid vehicles.
The new Panamera 4 E-Hybrid Sport Turismo and the all-electric Mission E will most likely be introduced in 2020. However, until Porsche takes a final decision regarding its diesel motors, the redesigned Cayenne will be launched in September and it will still offer a diesel version, Blume said.
