Porsche dragged into dieselgate

Porsche Cayennes with 3.0-litre V6 diesel engines under scrutiny for employing emissions cheat devices.

German Ministry of Transport has ordered an investigation on the Porsche Cayenne, in relation to the Volkswagen Group emissions scandal.

Under scrutiny are the V6 diesel-powered Cayennes, which are suspected to produce emissions in excess of the legal limit in Germany.

The sportscar make had been accused of using an emissions-test cheat device which manipulated the car’s emissions levels based on the amount of steering input. Porsche, however, denied the allegations.

However, Porsche has refuted the allegations. It released the following statement on the issue: "Der Spiegel has conducted joint tests with TÜV Nord on a Porsche Cayenne V6 TDI (Euro 6) and has reported on its findings in its latest edition. Porsche has obtained extracts of these results and considers them to be implausible. As a result of the Der Spiegel test, Porsche has conducted tests on a comparable Cayenne V6 TDI (Euro 6). The tests found that the vehicle was compliant with the legally stipulated nitric oxide limit values. Furthermore, Porsche has offered to conduct joint tests, but Der Spiegel has not accepted this offer.

Besides Porsche, Audi was recently pulled into the scandal for its A7 and A8 allegedly employing steering-wheel-based cheat devices.
